6 Suspects In Police Net For Kidnapping Bauchi Varsity Student Over $3,800 Fraud Proceed

 Policemen have arrested six suspects for allegedly masterminding the abduction of one Ojo Tobi David, a 400-level student of Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau in Bauchi State following a misunderstanding about sharing $3,800 made from internet fraud.

LEADERSHIP gathered that one of the suspects, Damilola James, slumped and died on sighting a team of military personnel attached to the 133 Special Force Batallion in Azare, who arrested and handed over the suspects to the Police.

Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, in a statement on Wednesday, said two of the six suspects arrested include 300-level and 400-level students of State-owned Sa’adu Zungur University. They are Abdulkarim Gobir and Ibrahim Yusuf.


The PPRO gave the names of the other suspects as Hassan Mohammed, Peter Femi and Samuel Abimbola.

“Based on inter-agency collaboration towards complementing constitutional mandates of the Police as a leading Agency in maintaining internal security, six (6) suspects were handed over to the command by operatives attached to the 133 SF Battalion based in Azare, Bauchi State.

“The suspects kidnapped one Ojo Tobi David ‘m’ age 23yrs old a 400 Level student of SLT Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG) from Federal Low Cost of Azare town, Bauchi State.

“After kidnapping the victim, the suspects snatched a Toyota Camry 2010 with Reg No. KYW-925-SB belonging to one Amaechi Ikechukwu of the same address and took their victim inside swiftly heading to Misau Road Azare.

“On receipt of the distress call, the soldiers stationed at Azare/Misau military checkpoint responded immediately and intercepted the stolen vehicle alongside the suspects, meanwhile, the victim was rescued unhurt.

“Preliminary investigation at Divisional Police Headquarters Azare indicates that the crux of the matter was a result of a misunderstanding over the sharing of 3800 US Dollars obtained in the Yahoo transaction,” the statement said.

SP Wakil said the matter has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Police Command for further investigations and subsequent arraignment of the suspects to court.
