Boyi-Agbede community Plead with Governor Abdulrzaq to caution Kwara Poly over alleged Land-Grabbing
The people Boyi, Agbede and other communities around the Kwara State polytechnic have called on Governor to caution the authority of the Kwara State polytechnic over what they termed as Land-Grabbing.
The community made the call today, during a peaceful protest, right in front of the polytechnic's gate with members of the community, young and old converged, bearing placards with different inscriptions like, "stop marking our land", "we have existed long before you were established", "stop threatening us with military men, we are not rebels", among others, to register their protest.
Sobi FM's Adebayo Abubakar gathered from the protesters that the communities have existed for more than a century, before the school was established, but that one Abdullahi Ajia who they described as a Security personnel with the school came with military men to mark their buildings for demolition, on Tuesday, in an apparent move to evict them from their ancestral land.
Our correspondent spoke with a number of the protesters; First was Mallam Abdulwahab Ajadi, who said they made effort to meet with the rector, for a dialogue, but he would not give room for that. According to Ajadi, prominent Magajis, and Baloguns, within the Emirate, to intervene, but the rector did not open any window tor for the meeting.
Mrs. Rabiatu Abdulrahman Boyi stated that she was no longer a kid, when the meeting was held, about 50 years ago, and land was allocated for the establishment of the school. But she regrets that the school authority under the current rector has taken over their farmland and their places of abode, which is their ancestral land.
Another indigene, Alhaji Ajadi Abdulkareem appeals to the executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to please reign in on the chief security officer of the school, Ajadi, stop harassing the residents, using military personnel. And that, they should also stop the plan to grab their lands
Attempt at getting an official response from the authority of the Kwara State polytechnic yielded no fruit.
The institution's PRO, Mrs. Halimah Garba, who spoke with our man on phone, said she would speak with the rector first, and promised to revert, but she never did. She later sent an SMS, saying that she, was still trying to reach the Rector, but has not succeeded.
