NSCDC rescues 25-year-old woman allegedly locked for years in Jigawa

  The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has rescued a 25-year-old woman allegedly locked in a room for years by her father in Jigawa State. Spokesman of the Jigawa State NSCDC Command, CSC Adamu Shehu, confirmed this to DAILY POST on Wednesday. He said this followed a complaint lodged at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters by one human rights activist that a girl of about 25 years named Ummi was locked up in a room within the house for several years without being allowed to come out by her father. CSC Shehu said the NSCDC operatives rushed to the house and rescued the girl, who was looking emaciated, unkempt, and depressed. He explained that the room in which she was living served as her toilet, where she urinates, and her food was served on a bare floor.

Nigeria’s U-20 team are through to the quarter-finals of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The Flying Eagles stunned Argentina 2-0 on Wednesday night to win their Round of 16 clash. Ibrahim Muhammad scored the first goal for Ladan Bosso’s men in the 61st minute. Deep into stoppage time, Rilwanu Sarki headed into the net, to seal the huge win for Nigeria. They will now play either Korea Republic or Ecuador for a place in the semi-final of the tournament.

  The Upper Shariah Court of Appeal No. 1 sitting in Bauchi metropolis, has issued a bench warrant against the Dutsen-Tanshi Jumma’at Mosque Imam, Dr Idris Abdul’aziz, following his failure to appear before the court. Dr Abdul’aziz is standing trial before the court for alleged incitement of public disturbance and blasphemy, following a petition against him to the Police alleging that the Islamic cleric in one of his last Ramadan Tafsir sessions made blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and some notable Dariqa clerics. Reckless driver crushes motorcyclists, passenger to death in Ogun, flees

  Three persons were on Tuesday crushed to death by a reckless driver at Agbeloba area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi said the driver of the Ford Mondeo car, coming from Quarry Road, lost control, ran over the roundabout at the Agbeloba junction and rammed into two motorcycle riders discharging passengers. He added that the car, later rammed into a container shop used for betting. Akinbiyi said, “Okada riders and a female passenger were killed instantly, due to the impact of the collision. He noted that “the driver escaped among the crowd who came as sympathisers to the scene.” Akinbiyi said the victims’ bodies were taken away by family members, who identified them. Court jails father for defiling 8-yr-old daughter

A Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a father, Suleiman Usman, to life imprisonment for defiling his eight-year-old daughter.   Justice Rahman Oshodi sentenced Usman to life imprisonment after he was found guilty as charged by the Lagos State government. The state government had arraigned Usman on a two-count charge bordering on defilement of his two daughters of eight years and five years at their residence at 2, Bale Street, Onisewo area of Apapa, Lagos State. He pleaded not guilty to the two count charge when he was arraigned. Usman was first arraigned before Justice Sybil Nwaka on October 2019 before the judge was elevated to the Court of Appeal and the casefile was reassigned to Justice Oshodi’s court where he was re-arraigned.   During the trial, the prosecution called four witnesses among which were the first survivor, the eight-year-old girl, the Investigative Police Officer, IPO, the defendant’s wife (the mother of the survivors), and the med

We‘ll revisit naira redesign policy, says Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu , has promised to revisit the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Tinubu, who said this in his inaugural speech in Abuja on Monday, however, said that his administration would treat both the old and the new naira notes as legal tender. He said that the policy was harshly applied by CBN, given the number of unbanked Nigerians. “Whatever merits it had in concept, the currency swap was too harshly applied by the CBN,” he said. Tinubu said that the country’s monetary policy needed thorough housecleaning. He urged the CBN to work toward a unified exchange rate. “This will direct funds away from arbitrage into meaningful investment in the plant, equipment and jobs that power the real economy. “The interest rate needs to be reduced to increase investment and consumer purchasing in ways that sustain the economy,” he said. Buhari Renames Airports After Awolowo, Akintola, Danfodio, Idiagbon; Others

The formal President Of the federal Republic Of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari approved the renaming of 15 airports after some Nigerians shortly before leaving office. The approval, according to a statement from the Ministry of Aviation and signed by the Head of Press and Public Affairs, Odutayo Oluseyi, was given on Friday.   The airports include Akure International Airport named after Olumuyiwa Bernard Aliu; Benin International Airport now known as Oba Akinzua II; Dutse International Airport renamed Muhammed Nuhu Sanusi; Ebonyi International Airport Okadigbo now known as Chuba Wilberforce; and Gombe International Airport renamed Brigadier Zakari Maimalari. They also include Ibadan International Airport (Samuel Ladoke Akintola); Ilorin International Airport (General Tunde Abdullahi Idiagbon); Kaduna International Airport (Gen. Mammoth crowd during the inauguration ceremony of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP flag bearer, Abba Kabir Yusuf as Governor of Kano State has resulted in the partial collapse of the podium at the venue.   The crowd of people was said to be hanging on to the pillars of the podium, hence the collapse. The incident happened when the Governor, Yusuf was making his speech after the swearing-in. The development forced the Governor to pause the speech before he later continued.
